Inclusive Health, Nutrition & WASH
We strengthen inclusive health and nutrition systems so that persons with disabilities can access quality, equitable, and dignified healthcare.
Our Approach
EID-U works to ensure that persons with disabilities are fully included in health policies, programs, and service delivery. We advocate for equitable access to healthcare services by addressing physical, communication, attitudinal, and systemic barriers within health systems.
Our approach is grounded in two principles: equitable access and full participation. We collaborate with health facilities, local governments, and partners to improve accessibility, build capacity of health workers, and integrate disability inclusion into health programming.
Disability-Inclusive Health Systems Strengthening
We work with health facilities, local governments, and service providers to strengthen health systems so they are inclusive of persons with disabilities. This includes improving physical accessibility of health facilities, promoting respectful and non-discriminatory care, and supporting the integration of disability inclusion into health planning and service delivery. We also support capacity building of health workers to enhance their skills in communicating and serving persons with different types of disabilities.
Inclusive Nutrition Programming
EID-U addresses the strong link between disability and malnutrition, particularly among children and women with disabilities. We advocate for disability inclusion in nutrition policies and programs and support community-based nutrition interventions that reach children with disabilities and their caregivers. Our work focuses on early identification of malnutrition, referral to appropriate services, nutrition education, and addressing stigma and food insecurity that often prevent families from accessing nutrition support.
Inclusive Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) Services
We promote equitable access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene by ensuring WASH services are accessible and usable by persons with disabilities. Our interventions emphasize universal design in WASH infrastructure, including toilets, water points, and handwashing facilities. We also address hygiene practices, safety, dignity, and privacy, particularly for women, girls, and children with disabilities, while reducing the caregiving burden on families.
Community Engagement, Advocacy & Behavior Change
We engage communities, caregivers, and local leaders to promote inclusive health, nutrition, and WASH practices. Through awareness raising, community dialogues, and advocacy, we challenge stigma, harmful beliefs, and discriminatory practices that limit access to services. We amplify the voices of persons with disabilities in health and WASH decision-making processes and advocate for inclusive policies, budgets, and service delivery at local and national levels.
