In a bold step toward social inclusion, Esperanza Initiative on Disability Uganda (EID Uganda) has launched a new Community Outreach and Empowerment Program targeting women and girls living with disabilities in Iganga District.
The initiative, officially unveiled this week, aims to provide vocational training, disability rights awareness, and economic empowerment opportunities to previously underserved groups. According to programme leaders, the project will focus on access to inclusive healthcare services, sustainable livelihoods, and protection from gender-based violence.
“Women and girls with disabilities often face double discrimination - both for gender and disability,” said an EID Uganda spokesperson. “Our goal is to ensure they are seen, heard, and included in all aspects of community life.”
The programme will run in partnership with local community leaders, healthcare workers, and advocacy groups, and officials expect it to benefit hundreds of families in the first six months.
This effort underscores EID Uganda’s commitment to fostering an inclusive society where equitable access to services and participation in governance are prioritized, especially for the most vulnerable
