Over 150 community leaders, health professionals, and disability advocates gathered in Jinja this week for a landmark training workshop hosted by Esperanza Initiative on Disability (EID Uganda).
The intensive training focused on inclusive policies, disability rights education, and strategies to improve access to public services for persons with disabilities. Topics included disability-friendly healthcare provision, equitable education access, and inclusive employment practices.
Participants praised the workshop for equipping them with practical tools to advocate for persons with disabilities in both urban and rural settings. “This training has opened our eyes to the real barriers faced by persons with disabilities,” said one participant. “We now have skills to make our institutions more welcoming and accessible.”
The event marks the beginning of a year-long series of regional engagements planned by EID Uganda to implement community-driven solutions and advocacy campaigns across eastern and central Uganda.
Organisers emphasised that improving disability inclusion is not just a matter of charity but a step toward social justice and sustainable development for all Ugandans.
